Abstract

715,303. Mechanical wheeled toys. FRANCIS, B. F. July 29, 1953 [Oct. 10, 1952], No. 25404/52. Class 132(3) A keyless clockwork travelling toy has a front-wheel drive and the front axle may be swung in a horizontal plane to steer the top. A toy motor car comprises a clockwork mechanism 15 which is wound by bearing on the toy and simultaneously moving the toy backwards along the ground or other surface, a wheel .21 . engageable with the ground thus being rotated and the mainspring wound. The front axle 16 is supported in one circular bearing' 28 and in a slot 27, Fig. 4, the axle thus being able to swing within the limits of the length of the slot 27. The axle 16 is adjustable in its slot by means of an arm 30 pivoted at 31 to a side plate 13 of the clockwork mechanism, the arm projecting through the vehicle chassis plate 10 and having an aperture through which the axle passes. The wheel 21 is normally clear of the ground as a result of the lower position of the front wheels, the front part of the clockwork mechanism carrying the front wheels and axle being resiliently held in the position shown in Fig. 4 by a spring 17.
