Class 117 [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVII] Apparatus for sorting articles on a conveyer in accordance with a predetermined requirement comprises a moving carrier operated at a speed related to that of the conveyer which is affected in response to the result of a test on each article to operate means for diverting articles which do not pass the test. As shown (Fig. 1), the carrier consists of a rotating disc 11 having a series of holes 12 near its periphery and is associated with a device 13 which drops a steel ball into a particular hole in response to the result of the test, which ball at position 15 tilts a hinged plate 17 to operate a switch 20 to energize directing means. The steel ball is subsequently fed back into 13 for re-use.
