711,136. Reciprocating pumps. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., MOLL, J. H., and MADELEY, R. S. B. Dec. 11, 1951 [Dec. 12, 1950], No. 30331/50. Class 102 (1). A pump for liquid gases comprises a liquid chamber having a discharge port below the liquid level, and a cylinder mounted in the chamber so that relative movement causes the cylinder to register in a fluid tight manner with the discharge port. The piston, cylinder, and discharge port have relative movements so that first the discharge port and the cylinder registerto trap liquid in the cylinder and then the liquid is ejected through the discharge port and the piston and cylinder then have a short relative movement so that the pressure within the cylinder is reduced to facilitate disengagement of the cylinder and discharge port. The pump may be constructed so that either the discharge port or the piston remains stationary and the end of the cylinder has a conical seating which engages a complementary seating around the discharge port.
