Abstract

1, 078, 027. Reciprocating pumps. DISTILLERS CO. Ltd. Aug. 6, 1964 [Aug. 21, 1963], No. 33004/63. Heading F1A. In a carbon dioxide pump an annular recess 9, surrounding the pump plunger 2, is connected through a passageway 12 with the container for supplying the liquid, carbon dioxide to be pumped. The carbon dioxide gas under pressure present in the recess 9 prevents liquid carbon dioxide which leaks from the pumping chamber 5 from solidifying. Glands 10 and 11 surrounding the pumping plunger restrict carbon dioxide leakage. The gas in recess 9 may be produced by vaporization of liquid carbon dioxide supplied to the recess.
