Abstract
705,488. Buttons. BLAIR, J. Dec. 5,1950 [Sept. 5, 1949], No. 22900/49. Addition to 622,990 and 633,613. Class 43 The method of attaching the removable head of the button described in Specification 633,613 is modified by providing the head 1 with an inwardly directed peripheral flange or rim 3 to engage the ends of arms 8, 9 extending laterally from the shanks 6, 7, the shanks being bent inwardly at right-angles to the plane of the arms 8, 9 in order that they may be pushed through two of the holes in a button and then bent outwardly behind ,the button. Fig. 2 shows the shanks 6, 7 and lateral arms 8, 9 cut from a single sheet of metal, and before the bending of the shanks. The ends of the arms are cut or slit at 10 to provide resilient fingers 11 which are inserted into a pair of diametrically opposite slots 5 in the flange 3 and the arms are then moved around so that their ends engage behind the flange. When the head is secured to a button the junction of the members 6, 7 and 8, 9 is dished or bowed inwardly by the pressure of the bunch of threads which secures the button and is received in the cavity 2 of the head 1, the free ends of the arms 8, 9, maintaining engagement with the internal flange 3. The head 1 may be made of thermo-setting or thermoplastic material, or of wood, metal, or other material.
