Abstract

<PICT:0703962/IV (a)/1> A thermoplastic composition comprises 43 to 64 per cent. by weight of a water-soluble non-thermoplastic cellulose either consisting of methyl cellulose, methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose or hydroxypropyl cellulose, 26 to 45 per cent. by weight of propylene glycol and 6 to 18 per cent. by weight of glycerine. The proportions of the three components should fall within area A on the drawing. Preferably the proportion of glycerine is between 10 to 12.5 per cent. The cellulose ethers may have a viscosity of 25 to 150 centipoises. Comparative tests on films made by extrusion of compositions heated to 150 DEG C. are reported. A specified composition comprises 52.5 per cent. methyl cellulose, 37.5 per cent. propylene glycol and 10 per cent. glycerine.
