Abstract

A water-soluble thermoplastic composition comprises (1) 5-80 per cent by weight of a water-soluble alkyl cellulose, hydroxyalkyl cellulose or alkyl hydroxyalkyl cellulose in which the alkyl group contains 1-3 carbon atoms and the hydroxyalkyl group contains 2 or 3 carbon atoms; and (2) 95-20 per cent by weight of a monoalkyl ether of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, or propylene glycol, the alkyl group containing 1-3 carbon atoms. Specified cellulose ethers are methyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl, and methyl hydroxypropyl ethers; specified monoalkyl glycol ethers are propylene glycol monomethyl ether, propylene glycol monoisopropyl ether, propylene glycol monoethyl, ethylene glycol monoethyl ester, and the monoisopropyl ether of diethylene glycol.
