Abstract

Aqueous solutions or dispersions of an adhesive for composite wood products (see Division B5) comprises an urea-, phenol-, resorcinol-, melamine- and/or furfurol-formaldehyde resin glue, a hardener, e.g. NH4Cl, and 0.5 to 60 wt. per cent of one or more polyalkylene glycols of molecular weight 106 to 1000 and general formula <FORM:1067043/C3/1> where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H or C1- 4 alkyl and n is at least 2. Two glycols of different molecular weights, e.g. 400 and 1000, may be used. The composition may also contain water-soluble polysaccharide extenders, e.g. cellulose ethers and esters, starch, wheat-, rye- or pea-flour, dextrin or sugar; insecticides; fungicides; and flame-proofing agents.
