Abstract

703,679. Damp-proof course ; building blocks. OS, D. VAN. July 21, 1952 [Sept. 28, 1951], No. 18318/52. Classes 20 (4) and 87 (1) To provide a damp course in an existing wall .1, 2, one or more layers of bricks are broken out over the whole breadth of the wall to be treated and the space thus formed is filled up with wedge shaped bricks 3-10 of such dimensions .that they may be wedged in pairs in the space with two sides. of each pair of bricks lying ,parallel and engaged with the lower and upper sides respectively of the space, the wedge shaped bricks being made of impermeable material or under these bricks a continuous strip of impermeable material 16 is arranged, the bricks then being either permeable or impermeable. The material 16 is a thin strip of polyvinylchloride. Each brick, which is rectangular in plan, has a cross section in the form of a rectangular trapezium, the angle enclosed by sides 11, 14 being small, and the sharp corner being cut off by a side 15 perpendicular to side 11. Channels 18- 21 are formed for ventilation and evaporation of moisture ascending along a joint. The bricks may be made of water-tight concrete and the sides 11 and 14 may be coated with water-tight mortar.
