699,860. Combing textile fibres. HINSON, O. C. July 28, 1947 [Jan. 4, 1945], No. 15625/50. Divided out of 699,851. Class 120 (i.) Textile fibres are combed on a Heilmann or other rectilinear type combine machine by subjecting a supply lap having a weight of more than 80 grams per yard per inch of lap width to a draft by the detaching rolls in excess of 7, the fed-back end portion of the combed lap being held against a support by a current of air. Each combed tuft may be overlapped for more than half its length upon the preceding tuft as described in Specification 699,851. As shown. in the machine described in Specification 699,851, the long fed back end of the combed lap is held against the surface of detaching roll 7 by an air current, induced as described in Specification 699,861, which then causes the tap end to pass between the wall of a housing 9 and a baffle 139. The draft, which is defined as the ratio of the extension of the end of the supply lap by the detaching rolls to the length of feed, may be 20 or more, and the weight of the supply lap may be approximately 125 grams per yard per inch of lap width.
