Abstract

699,744. Calculating-apparatus. HUNTER, J. R. July 18, 1951 [Aug. 10, 1950], No. 19934/50. Class 106 (i). A calculating device, for use in checking a multi-cylinder oil engine for power balance, comprises scales for taking measurements on an indicator diagram, and nomogram scales for computing mean cylinder pressure from the measurements. The measuring scales comprise a base line b with vertical lines c and d marking the limits of the indicator diagram m. The line c is graduated for measuring the height of the diagram, and an inclined line f for measuring its width. An alternative height scale is marked at e and is used against a diagram n obtained with a drive offset 90 degrees from normal. The nomogram comprises corresponding height and width scales hand j, together with a scale k graduated to read mean pressure against a straight edge p set against the scales h and j. The nomogram and measuring scales may be marked on a single piece of transparent material or may be provided separately.
