Abstract

707,427. Linear-dimension gauges. GOMES, J. C. R. A. DA C. Nov. 23, 1951 [Nov. 24, 1950], No. 27585/51. Class 106 (2) A micrometer comprises a frame 2 having a reference element 9 thereon from which measurements are to be made along a chosen direction XX<SP>1</SP>, there being a micrometer screw 5 in the frame 2 for adjusting the position of a measuring element 8 co-operating with the reference element 9, the axis of the micrometer screw 5 being slightly out of the perpendicular to the chosen direction XX<SP>1</SP>. As shown, when the knob 6 is rotated a block 3 is caused to move along the screw 5. The block 3 carries an arm 7 slidably extending through the measuring element 8 slidable in an arm of the frame 2. Thus, as the block 3 is caused to move towards the knob 6 the measuring element 8 will be drawn away from the reference element 9. A scale 4 on the frame 2 co-operating with a mark on the block 3 gives a direct reading of the distance between the members 8 and 9.
