Abstract

696,240. Actuation of switches. WEIR ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1951 [Jan. 24, 1951], No. 1871/51. Class 38 (v) A float-operated switch particularly for use in oilcooled transformers, has a cylindrical glass float 15 secured to a pivoted member 14, to which is secured a lever 21 carrying a mercury switch 27. The float may be of heatresisting glass and may have a circumferential groove, or, as shown, countersunk portions 16 to locate a split spring metal securing band 17. The pivoted member 14 may be eccentrically pivoted at 13 so as to provide a counterbalancing effect for the float. The lever 21 has a cut-away portion providing shoulders 24, 25, which cooperate with a hexagonal cross bar 11 to limit the movement of the float.
