Abstract
6 - Methyl - 8 - (21, 61, 61 - trimethylcyclohex-11 - en - 11 - yl) - octa - 3 : 5 : 7 - trien - 2 - on is obtained by splitting out elements of water from 6 - methyl - 8 - (11 - hydroxy - 21, 61, 61\h - trimethylcyclohex - 11 - yl) - octa - 3 : 5 : 7 - trien - 2 - one by means of heat. The reaction may be effected in an inert solvent, e.g. toluene in the presence of p-toluene sulphonic acid and an anti-oxidant in the temperature range 80-120 DEG C. As anti-oxidant there may be used a -tocopherol. Specifications 670,211, 674,088, 687,429 and 694,807 are referred to.
