Abstract

694,584. End-tippers for unloading railway wagons. STRACHAN & HENSHAW, Ltd. Sept. 24, 1951. [Nov. 15, 1950] No. 27944/50. Class 78 (iv). A turntable is mounted on an end-tipper for railway wagons so that a wagon on the tipper mav be turned to direct its end discharge gate to the side of the track in the direction of tipping. In the form shown the cradle of the tipper comprises a pair of spaced toothed sectors 23 turned about trunnions 21 by pinions 24 driven through gearing 26 from an electric motor 25. The rails 10 for the wagon are carried on a turntable 1 supported from the cradle either by rollers 2 running on a circular track 3 as shown or by a central vertical pivot. The wagon is supported on the cradle during tipping solely by a buffer beam 31 against which the buffers 22 of the wagon bear. The turntable may be revolved by hand or through gears, ropes or chains by power.
