Abstract

693,490. Porous fibre-board. OMAN, E. March 7, 1950 [March 12, 1949], No. 5725/50. Class 96. Straw or similar fibrous material is digested with an aqueous solution or suspension of lime, the resulting pulp is mixed with wood fibres, e.g. bark or peat, and the mixture is formed into porous fibre-board utilizing some of the waste lye from the digestion as a binder. Digestion may take place in a vessel A and at 95 to 100‹C in a liquid containing waste lye from a preceding digestion. Insoluble substances may be removed from the solution, suspension or lye during or after digestion. From 50 to 80 per cent by weight of the waste lye from the digestion may be mixed with the pulp and wood fibres. The pulp may be milled with waste lye and water in a mill E, e.g. a pulp engine, before being mixed with the wood fibres in a mixer G. The mixture may be drained, e.g. on a wire K, and formed into boards, e.g. under pressure. Most of the lye draining off may be returned to the mixer G and some may be returned to the mill E. The dried fibre-board may contain from 20 to 30 per cent by weight of straw, including the binder, and from 80 to 70 per cent of wood fibres. Specifications 671,251 and 686,250, [Group IV (a)], are referred to.
