Abstract

565,545. Firelighters. BYRTE, H. C. April 9, 1943, No. 5705. [Class 50] 25 to 50 per cent of relatively coarse sawdust is incorporated in firelighters formed by sheets of cellulosic fibrous material secured together in a pack and impregnated with combustible liquid such as paraffin, as described in Specification 407,361. The sawdust is treated., either prior to or after admixture with the other ingredients, with a known agent such as caustic soda, soda ash, or dilute hydrochloric acid to render it more absorbent. The cellulosic material comprises pressed, rolled or moulded screenings from pulp or paper mills ; chopped straw, paper waste, wood flour, waste fibres from jute or cotton mills and a small quantity of peat, e.g. 5 per cent, may be added.
