Abstract
691,856. Moulds for concrete blocks &c. HOLMES, A. E. Oct. 24, 1949 [Oct. 29, 1948; Nov. 26, 1948]. No. 27277/49. Class 87 (ii). A mould for concrete blocks comprises hinged sides and ends attached to a table top and means extending through the table top to raise the bottom of the mould and hinge back the sides and ends. The ejecting means, shown in the raised position, consists of vertically reciprocable uprights 5 actuated in unison by a treadle 8 underneath the table 1. Each upright 5 carries, by means of cross-heads 9, a pair of depending side arms 10 which reciprocate on the edges of the table 1. The sides and ends of the mould are formed by pairs of angle irons, respectively 19, 19a hinged at 17, 18 to brackets 16, 18a which are attached to the outer sides of base members 14, 14a forming part of the supporting table 1. The sides and ends carry groove-forming strips 24. The bottom of the mould is formed by a palette 13, Fig. 4, located on the cross-heads 9 by dowels 12. In the moulding position with the uprights 5 lowered, the palette 13 rests on the base members 14, 14a and the mould sides 19, 19a are closed inwards on their hinges 17, 18. Rods 28 connecting the horizontal flanges of mould ends 19a to brackets 30 on the uprights 5 ensure that the ends are hinged down tightly. Interengaging extensions 22, 22a on the sides and ends respectively ensure that they hinge outwardly and inwardly in unison. Pins fixed to bars 34 are normally urged forwards by springs 39 to project through holes in the mould sides 19 into the moulding space. After the material has been cast the pins are withdrawn by pulling on handles 36 attached to the bars 34. A frame 43, arranged to slide on the table top 1 is provided at one side with a hand grip 42 and engages at the other side with handles 36 (not shown) remote from the operator thus enabling him to withdraw both sets of pins 32 from one side of the table. As the members 5 rise to eject the moulded article, the side arms 10 engage the horizontal flanges of the mould sides 19 and tip these up. The ejected article is then removed on its palette 13. Runners for a strickle Fig. 3 (not shown) are provided.
