Abstract

688,867. Man-hole &c: covers. AFFLERBACH, O. Oct. 19, 1950 [Oct. 20, 1949; Sept. 14, 1950]. No. 25551/50. Class 123 (i). The edge of an elliptical man or hand hole in the shell 5 of a steam boiler &c. is bevelled and also reinforced by a ring 3 which has a conical outer surface and is welded to said edge by a V- shaped seam 6. The ring 3 may be a solid drop forging or formed from pressed sheet metal. The man-hole cover 1 has a flat peripheral flange 1a which surrounds an outwardly convex part .mounting a central clamping bolt 2 fitted with a stirrup 9 which, preferably, has four spaced bracing arms provided with end recesses 9a, 9b adapted to engage the upper edge of the ring 3. A gasket 4 is interposed between the cover flange la and the lower plane surface 3a of the ring 3.
