Class 100(i) Labels or sheets are withdrawn from a stack and carried to an intermediate station, where adhesive is applied thereto, by a rotatable member having at least one operative face on which a charge of static electricity has been produced. The operative face may be formed from or covered with polytetrafluorethylene. As shown, bottles 2 are fed in spaced succession to a conveyer 1 by a feed worm 3, the bottles being carried past a labelling station and then to a delivery platform 4. At the labelling station, a gummed label is presented to the adjacent bottle 2 by a feeding member 6, the bottle being rolled-across the label on the member 6 by a pressure wheel 7 rotatably mounted in an arm 8 which is spring-urged towards the conveyer 1. The feeding member 6 is mounted on an intermittentlyrotating shaft 13, and is provided with four feeding faces 14 of polytetrafluorethylene, each face being subjected to a rubbing action by a brush 16, which is rotated and moved laterally when in contact with each face 14, whereby an electrostatic charge is produced on the face. Each charged face 14 takes up a label from a stack 19, presents it to a gumming roller 22, and then carries it to the labelling station. The stack 19 is slidably mounted in a support 21, and is moved towards the adjacent face 14. The gumming roller 22 is reciprocated laterally, and is mounted in a gum bath 23.
