Abstract
686,138. Anchors. DANFORTH, R. S. Oct. 16, 1950. No. 25187/50. Class 113 (i). In an anchor with a pair of flukes 10, a shank 12, and a stock 13, the stock has an overall length of at least twice the distance between the respective centres of area of the entire faces of the flukes, while the shank-and flukes are so proportioned and positioned relatively to each other when in operative relation that a plane through the point of cable attachment on the shank and through the centres of area of the fluke forward faces makes an angle with the plane of the fluke faces between 40 degrees and 65 degrees the area of the fluke forward faces being at least 40 per cent of the resistance area of the anchor and the ratio of the fluke resistance area to the fluke area of the fluke forward faces being between 0.027 W<SP>0.1363</SP> and 0.010 W<SP>0.1363</SP> where W is the weight of the anchor in pounds, each fluke having a crown spacer plate 21 secured thereto so as to extend substantially normal to the plane of the flukes and identical flat crown plates 14, 15, being secured to the spacer plates, the crown plates sloping upwardly and rearwardly in a spaced relation to the plane of the flukes and at an acute angle thereto.
