Abstract

A shearing machine for metal stock comprises a front and/or back gauge for the work, screw- and-nut mechanism for adjusting the gauge or gauges at right angles to its or their length, gearing coupling the screw or screws to the rotor or rotors of a transmitter or transmitters of an indicating device or devices and a receiver for each transmitter having . its rotor electrically coupled to the rotor of the transmitter and adapted to operate a gauge-position indicator. The machine comprises a frame 10 carrying a table 11, a stationary shearing blade 13 and a power-operated reciprocating blade 14 carried by a beam 15 upon which is mounted two screw housings 16 for screws 18. Each housing is provided with guides 17 for blocks 19 which are in screwthread engagement with the screws 18. Each block is secured to a back-gauge 21. A coupling shaft 23 connects the screws 18 through bevel gearing 24 and is driven through sprocket and chain gear 28 by a motor 26 mounted on the beam 15. Mounted on one of the screws 18 is a gear-wheel 29 which engages a gear-wheel 30 on the transmitter shaft 31 of an indicating element. A front gauge 12 on the table 11 is mounted on two posts 34 attached to blocks 35 mounted upon adjusting screws 37, each block projecting through a slot in the side of the screw housing, which is secured to the frame 10. The screws 37 are coupled by a shaft 43 and gearing 42 driven by a motor 46 which drives a shaft 47 connected by reducing chain and sprocket gearing to a shaft 51. The shaft 51 is also coupled by chain and sprocket gearing to the shaft 43. One of the screws 37 is coupled by gearing to a transmitter 62 of the indicating element. The transmitters 32 and 62 are electrically connected to receiver elements 63 (only one shown in Fig. 2) which indicate on dials the positions of the two gauges.
