Abstract
682,331. Rolling; angular bending; straightening. BIGWOOD & SON, Ltd., J. Dec. 27, 1950 [Oct. 1, 1949], No. 25281/49. Class 83 (iv). In a bending, straightening or other machine for operating on metal stock by rolls, means is provided for indicating the positions of the axes of the adjustable rolls. A plate-bending machine, Fig. 1, has fixed rolls 10 and an upper roll 11 with end bearings 13, 14, each adjustable by screws 15 engaging worm-wheels 16 driven through worms and a clutch from a power shaft 18. A further clutch 23 is provided between the worms to allow independent adjustment of the bearings 13, 14. The lower end of each screw 15 is connected by a rod 26 and adjustable chain to the transmitter rotor of an electrical follow-up mechanism of known type. The receiver rotor coupled to the transmitter operates roll-position indicators 46. A transmitter 27 is connected to the rear bending roll, not shown, and its adjusted position is shown by an indicator 46. A limit switch operated by a cam on a transmitter rotor shaft may be provided to stop the main motor on overwinding of the chains.
