Abstract

681,899. Protective cut-out arrangements. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 15,1951 [Aug. 15, 1950], No. 19296/51. Class 38 (v) [Also in Group XXXVI] In high-tension cable having protective arrangements for the cable, the insulated power cores 1 have conductive coverings 3, 4, which are maintained at earth potential and provided with a common insulating covering 7 over which an externally-insulated conductive layer 8 is arranged, and two separate protective systems are provided, one connected to the conductive coverings 3 and the other to the conductive layer 8 so that internal or external faults in the cable cause the corresponding protective system to be operated. A short-circuit between a conductor 1 and its earthed covering 3 operates a leakage relay which disconnects the installation. A low voltage, for example 24 v., is applied to.the layer 8, and leakage between this and earth, either through the external insulation 9 or the covering 7 causes a supervisory relay to disconnect the installation.
