Abstract
680,724. Regulating switches; electromagnetic switches. MORRIS ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., J., and WILCOX, K. Nov. 6, 1950 [Dec. 3, 1949], No. 31104/49. Class 38(v) [Also in Group XXXV] A regulating switch for controlling variable impedances and particularly for use as a dynamo voltage regulator, comprises a fixed rectilinear row of contact pieces b and a bare c which is so curved that when it is rocked, its point of contact moves along the row of contact pieces, the bar being maintained in contact with the row by gravity and/or the pressure of a spring. The bar is actuated by means of a lever e which is pivotally supported by a pair of spring blades g secured to a rigid support h. The lever e is coupled to the bar c by a pair of spring blades j extending between transverse members k, on the bar and the lever. The armature o of an electromagnet mis rigidly secured to the lever e and the piston q of an air dashpot p is connected by a rod r extending through the armature o to the free end of a blade spring secured to the lever e. The damping action of the dashpot is adjusted by means of a rotatable cover piece v co-operating with a vent hole (not shown), and by varying the effective length of the blade spring s by means of a slidable adjustable abutment w. It is stated that the lever construction is such that when the lever is actuated by the electromagnet, the lever imparts to the contact bar c a pure rolling motion on the fixed contact pieces b.
