Abstract
733,216. Electromagnetic relays. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELEPHONES. Feb. 24, 1953 [March 4, 1952], No. 5134/53. Class 38 (5). A relay comprises a strip b made rigid over the greater part of its length by being clamped between a pair of plates P,P<SP>1</SP> so that it flexes in the region n. The strip b carries a weight W at its free end and has a pair of lugs I, I<SP>1</SP> cooperating respectively with stressed contactcarrying blades L, L<SP>1</SP> so that when the blade is in its central position the lugs prevent the blades from flexing and engaging screw contacts K, K<SP>1</SP>. The blade is set in vibration to permit the alternate periodic engagement of the contact pairs by momentarily energizing a magnet coil r whereby an arm R on the armature s deflects the strip and sets up free oscillations in the latter. The frequency of the oscillations is adjustable by varying the tension of a spring a connected to the strip b at t, the spring passing freely through an opening in the weight W and being connected at its other end to a blade f biased against an adjustable screw stop h. Thus screwing down of the stop h deflects the blade f to reduce the tension of the spring a and in turn reduces the frequency.
