Abstract
680,641. Rotary pressure - exchangers. JENDRASSIK, G. Feb. 28, 1951 [Dec. 8, 1949], No. 31609/49. Class 8 (i). In a gas pressure-exchanger having a rotor and a stator, one of which contains annularly arranged gas cells and in which a critical clearance is maintained between a surface on the rotor and a surface on the stator the latter surface is constituted by a group of plates 2, 2', 2<SP>11</SP> spaced from each other so as to permit individual thermal expansion but fitting together to form a substantially continuous superficies, each plate being undividually attached to the stator by means which provide a restricted heat path. The hexagonal plates have bosses 2a which abut the end plates 1 of the stator and provide spaces 4 which may be packed with insulating material such as compressed asbestos or alternatively cooling air may be circulated through these spaces. The plates may alternatively be sector shaped and may be packed with insulating material or separated from the end plate 1 by a layer of insulating material. In a further embodiment Fig. 6, arcuate plates 12, separated by gaps 14, are secured to the cylindrical wall 11 of the stator. These plates may be square or rectangular.
