Abstract
790,270. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AKTIEBOLAG. Dec. 12, 1955 [Dec. 16, 1954], No. 35575/55. Class 64(1) In a thermal regenerator in which the heat transfer mass rotates and the ducts leading gases to and from it are stationary, or vice-versa, there is provided adjacent to each end of the shell containing the main heat transfer mass 7 an additional shell 8 which has the same cross-section as but is shorter axially than the main shell. All three shells are divided into sectorshaped compartments by radial walls which register with one another, and the gaps between registering walls are bridged by sealing elements which prevent leakage of air or gas and allow warping of the main rotor shell without warping of the short additional shells. Each seal may comprise one or two flat or bent resilient plates 14, Fig. 6, attached to one wall 10 and pressing against the side or sides of the other wall 11, or one or two spring plates secured to both walls, or one or two rigid plates with brushes or web-like seals at their lower edges. The outer cylindrical walls of the rotors have similar seals. The main shell, and if desired the additional shells, contain heat transfer material.
