Abstract

543,093. Regenerators. McCANDLISH, W. H., and SKINNER, A. J. Aug. 8, 1940, No. 11357. [Class 64 (i)] A rotary regenerator has a perforated metal cylinder 11 upon which are mounted refractory or metal blocks 12 with radial holes or spaces 13 through which the hot gases and air pass in turn as the cylinder rotates between gas and air ducts 5, 4. In place of the blocks, the perforated cylinder may be made of solid metal The cylinder is divided by a fixed heatconducting partition 16 having sliding end packings 7, 9. The hot gases from the duct 5 pass into the cylinder through the radial holes. and out through an end door, while the air enters through an end door and passes in a reverse direction through the radial holes to the conduit 4. The cylinder is supported and rotated by friction wheels 23 on driven shafts 24.
