In a wind shield for a ventilator of the kind comprising a series of nested archshaped baffles spread in overlapping relationship to form a canopy over the ventilator shaft each of the baffles in crosssection across its width has a longer outer side than inner side which inner and outer sides are non-parallel. In the ventilator shown an air collector 10, located in a room, is connected by a conduit 11 to a wind shield disposed outside the room. The wind shield is cast in two similar parts on either side of a plane 26, each part comprising a set of arch-shaped nested baffles 13, 14, 15 secured, at their ends, to the corresponding half of a sleeve 16. In order that each casting may easily be withdrawn from its mould the inner edge 24 of baffle 14 and the outer edge 27 of baffle 13 as well as the inner edge 25 of baffle 15 and the outer edge 28 of baffle 14 are so disposed as to provide clear throughways in a direction normal to the plane 26. In cross-section the baffles are provided with straight inner sides 18, 19, 20 and convexly shaped outer sides 21, 22, 23 and the inner edges of baffles 14, 15 are provided with upstanding ridges 24, 25. When the two wind shield castings are assembled, plug and socket connections 30, 31 being provided for alignment, the sleeve 16 is connected to the conduit 11 by a bayonet type connection 17. The air collector 10, also secured to the conduit by a bayonet connection, comprises three annual baffles 32 spaced by webs 33. It also may be cast by the use of a two-part mould. The shield 12 and collector 10 may be connected by a rod passing centrally through the shield, conduit and collector. The distance between shield 12 and collector 10 may be varied, the latter being provided with a long neck 34 for this purpose. Specification 435,050 is referred to.
