Abstract
965,898. Pulverized fuel burners. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. July 25, 1963 [July 28, 1962], No. 29528/63. Heading F4T. [Also in Division B2] A pulverized fuel firing apparatus includes a centrifugal classifier having a group of radially extending blades 12 adapted to impart a whirl to the fuel flowing through a cylindrical housing 10, a secondary duct 7 having an open end centrally disposed in the housing downstream of the blades to direct the central core of the fuel to a secondary burner 9, and a main duct 5 directing the peripheral fuel to a main burner 4 mounted below the secondary burner 9. The duct 5 has dampers 6 controlling the fuel flow to the main burner 4. The upper part of the housing 10 consists of flanged arcuate portions 11 each provided with a flat blade 12 mounted upon end shafts 18, 19 rotatably mounted in bearings in the arcuate portion 11 and in a central boss 13 mounted on the secondary duct 7. The outer end of each shaft 18 has a segmental plate 15 with an arcuate slot engaged by a locking screw 16 to position the blade 12. The blades 12 may be coupled together for simultaneous operation.
