Addition to 674,172, [Group V], Class 106 (v) [Also in Group V] Consists in improvements in the method of forming and filling capsules of plastic material according to the parent Specification, whereby pre-measured, compacted and shaped charges of a filling powder are fed to the cavities in the strip of plastic material. In addition to the cavity die roll 12 and sealing roll 13, a roll 11 having a number of measuring cavities 15 in its periphery is used. The cavities communicate, through porous plugs '16 of felt, sintered metal or glass or fine metallic screening material, with manifolds 22, which, during the time that the cavities are beneath the filling hopper 49, are connected to vacuum conduits 27 in stationary valve plates 23. Powder is drawn into the cavities and the charge levelled off as the cavities pass under the front edge of the hopper. The charge is retained in the measuring cavities until they register with the die cavities in the die roll 12. At this point the manifold 22 passes from its connection to the vacuum conduits 27 and registers with pressure conduits (not shown) in the same valve plates 23. The charge is blown into the die cavities and the capsules then sealed by means of the sealing roll 13 in the manner described in the parent specification. After discharge, the measuring cavities pass on and are again connected to pressure which blows out any remaining powder into a dust receiver 52. Air jets. and brushes may also be used to clean the cavities.
