Abstract
679,807. Sorting solid materials. JANSEN, A. W. May 22, 1951 [May 26, 1950], No. 11945/51. Class 117 Apparatus for grading fruit comprises a pair of endless conveyer belts 6, 7 driven by chains 5 over stationary guides 1 having inclined surfaces 2, the bevel of which decreases from the feed end, Fig. 1, to the other end, Fig. 2, so as to provide a divergent gradeway for the fruit in the direction of travel. By this arrangement the points of contact P between the fruit and the belts are maintained substantially the same throughout the travel of the fruit and variations of the position of the fruit on the belts due to friction thereby overcome. Each belt consists of an apron of fabric 6 secured to the chain 5 and a belt of soft resilient material 7, e.g. rubber loosely supported by the fabric, the belt hanging down freely from the edge 3 of the bevelled surface 2. The width of the slot between the guides may be adjustable and may be increased stepwise instead of continuously.
