Abstract

677,547. Double-twist spindles with yarn tensioning devices. COURTAULD, Ltd., ROONEY, H. C., and RILEY, J. Sept. 27, 1950 [Sept. 28, 1949], No. 24881/49. Class 120(ii) A double twist spindle comprises a package carrier 2 freely mounted on a live hollow spindle 21, a support (tube 1) on the carrier for engaging the tube 4 of a cheese or equivalent package 3, a separate nose piece 6 for insertion in the top of the tube 4 and having a central bore 13 for the passage of the thread 20 and a smooth non-rotatable bulbous shaped thread guiding surface 11 with a periphery of maximum diameter greater than that of the upper end of the tube 4, and a yarn tensioning device 15 mounted on the top of the nose piece 6 to tension the yarn before it passes into the bore of the nose piece. As shown the yarn tensioning device 15 comprises two rings 16 and 17, the lower ring 17 fitting tightly over a raised annular platform 18 on the upper surface of the nose piece 6 and the upper ring 16 being recessed on its upper surface to carry a weighting ring 19. A ball tensioning device 7 may also be provided within the tube 1. In a modification the yarn tensioning device 15 consists of a flat cone-shaped disc resting on top of the nose piece 6.
