Abstract

676,507. Control of A.C. motors. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Feb. 16, 1951.. [Feb. 22, 1950] No. 3787/51. Class 38 (iii). In order that the speed of an asynchronous motor 3 may be rendered substantially independent of the load theA.C. coils of a saturable reactor 1 are connected in the primary circuit of the motor. One D.C. control winding 7 of the reactor is energised in accordance with the motor primary current through current transformer 4 and rectifier 6 the other reactor control winding 11 being excited proportionately to the motor primary voltage through rectifier 9. The winding 11 is arranged so that its magnetic field opposes that of the winding 7. Adjustable regulating resistors 8, 10, (one of which can be omitted) may be provided. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the motor rotor winding is connected to a control winding of the reactor through a rectifier and series and parallel regulating resistors, so that the control winding is energized in accordance with the motor secondary current. An increase of motor torque produces larger primary and secondary currents together with increased excitation of the winding 7, so that a higher voltage is applied to the motor whereupon the ampere-turns of the windings 7, 11, are re-balanced, the speed of the motor remaining substantially unchanged over a wide range. The set speed may be adjusted by means of the variable resistors in the circuits of the control windings of the reactors.
