Abstract
675,412. Endless-chain digging machines. POUGET, E. May 2, 1950. [May 16, 1949] No. 10779/50. Class 68 (i). A hand-propelled machine for removing ballast from the proximity of railway sleepers 20 comprises a framework 1, 5, 7, 8 which is supported on a wheel 3 running along a rail 22. On the frame is mounted a motor 10 which drives, through a flexible coupling 11, reduction gear box 12, and two shafts 14 each of which drives through bevel gearing a shaft 16 on which is mounted a sprocket 17 that drives the endless chains 18 of the excavator elements. These excavator elements are disposed symmetrically of the rail at right angles thereto and each comprises a cased-in triangular framework about the periphery of which runs the chains that carry scraper blades 19. To lower or raise the excavator elements from the ballast, the framework is rotated about the wheel axle 2. The sides of the excavator elements remote from the rail may diverge obliquely in the form of a V in relation to the longitudinal plane of the rail. To stabilise the machine, there is provided a bar 23 one end of which is secured to the framework whilst the other end carries a roller 24 that rests on the other rail 25 of the track.
