675,085. Medicines. AKTIEBOLAGET PHARMACIA. Aug. 31, 1949 [Oct. 14, 1948], No. 12649/51. Divided out of 675,025. Class 81 (i). [Also in Group V] A pharmaceutical dextran product is prepared by subjecting dextran to a degradation by the action of alkaline substances, and interrupting the treatment at a point where a 4 per cent aqueous solution of the products shows a viscosity between 1.2 and 15 relative to water. According to an example an aqueous solution of crude dextran containing sodium hydroxide is maintained at a temperature of 90‹ C. until samples precipitated by means of alcohol and redissolved in water show the desired viscosity. The products may be used in ointments, as a plasma substitute or in solutions used for kidney or other function-tests.
