Abstract
Mono- and di-(arylamino)-acedianthrones, wherein the aryl group are of the benzene or naphthalene series, are made by condensing aminoacedianthrones with halogenaryl compounds containing at least one halogen atom attached directly to a benzene or naphthalene nucleus or by condensing nitroacedianthrones or halogenacedianthrones with amines of the benzene or naphthalene series. The products may be carbazolized with acid condensing agents. The products dye and print cotton brown shades. In examples, monoaminoacedianthrone (obtained by nitrating acedianthrone in sulphuric acid and reducing) is condensed with (1) p-bromotoluene, followed by carbazolization with aluminium chloride in nitrobenzene; (2) a -chloronaphthalene; (3) b -chloronaphthalene, followed by carbazolization. Also in examples: (4) diaminoacedianthrone (obtained by dinitrating acedianthrone in sulphuric and reducing with alkaline sodium hydrosulphite) is condensed with b -chlornaphthalene (two mols.) or a -bromonaphthalene, followed by carbazolization; and (5) mononitroacedianthrone is condensed with p-toluidine.
