Abstract

671.963. Stop-motions for looms. COUR-' TAULDS. Ltd., and TOWNSEND. C. F. Sept. 4, 1950 [Sept. 5. 1949]. No. 22925/49. Classes 142(i) and 142(iv), [Also in Group VIII] A stop motion for a warp of yarns comprises a roller 5 on which a tape 9 is wound as an open helix, the outer surface of the tape 9 being adhesive so that a slack of broken yarn of the warp passing over the roller contacts and adheres to the tape thereby restricting rotation of the roller and causing electrical contacts to engage to effect stoppage of the machine. The roller 5 is mounted on bearings one of which is formed on the end of a stub shaft 70 which carries a disc of insulating material 15 carrying pins 20, 21, 22. The pin 20 is an electrical contact connected to a ring 17 on the opposite side of the disc and which is contacted by the bush 18. The pin 21 is a stop for an arm 23 secured to the roller and passing between the pins 20, 21, the arm being held in contact with the pin 21 by a spring 24 secured to it and to the pin 22. The shaft 7 is rotated bv a pulley 13, its rotary motion being transmitted to the roller 5 by the spring 24 the direction of motion being such that the pin 21 is in advance of the arm 23. Should a yarn contact the tape 9 on the roller 5, the roller is retarded by the pull of the yarn and the arm 23 moves to contact the pin 20 completing an electrical circuit and thereby stopping the machine.
