[Classes 142(i) and 142(iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A warp stop-motion comprises a rotating, roller on which a broken thread is wound to close electrical contacts and stop the machine. The roller 22 which is covered with velvet or like material, extends the entire width of the warp 5 and is rotated in the direction of the arrow f2 by worm gearing and bevel gearing 35, 38, 42, 43 from a shaft 14 driven by a belt drive 12, 13 from an electric motor 11. Rocking levers 24 supporting the roller 22 are each provided with a roller 27 in contact with a cam 31 which causes the roller 22 to brush against the warp to detect a broken thread. When a broken thread is drawn out of the plane of the warp it moves one of a series of contacts 46 against a connecting bar 50 which causes a relay 57 to be energized and a switch 54 to be opened to stop the motor. The contacts 46 are formed of wire and are V-shaped and secured to a bar 48. Each contact is arranged so that a portion of it overlaps the adjacent contact and a broken warp cannot pass between two contacts and fail to stop the motor. In an alternative construction, the roller 22 may have longitudinal slits along its surface connected to a source of vacuum whereby a broken thread is held against the roller by suction. In a machine having a warp which swings about an axis, the roller 22 may be stationary and positioned to engage the warp during its swing.
