Abstract
671,693. Spectacle frames. JAMESON, Ltd., W., and JAMESON, W. May 2, 1950 [Sept. 30, 1949], No. 25120/49. Class 97 (i). A hinge member to which a corresponding hinge on the end of a temple arm can be pivoted, is carried by a housing having a recess in which lugs carried by the ends of a split rim, or a lug carried by an undivided rim, are detachably secured by a screw. As shown, the housing 3 carrying hinge arms 3c, Fig. 5, which may be rebated at 3d, has a recess 4, Fig. 1, open at the bottom, into which the lugs 2, 2a are slid and held by a screw 5 engaging a tapped hole 4a in the housing. The housing has a channel or rebated portion 3a to engage the edge of the lens to assist in clamping the housing thereto. Alternatively the screw may pass through the members in the opposite direction or the recess 4 may enter the housing from the top. A space 4b between the back of the recess and the lug 2 allows the split rim to be adjusted slightly to accommodate lenses of different sizes. An undivided rim is provided with a single lug to engage the housing. The rims or housing, or both, may be of metal or plastic, the arrangement permitting of removing the temples without disturbing the rims.
