Abstract
597,064. Spectacle frames. ABBEY, A. (American Optical Co.). Aug. 8, 1945, No. 20365. [Class 97'(i)] A temple support has a slot in which the temple end is pivoted and which contains a U-shaped resilient friction member, the open end of the U embracing the pivot pin and the ends of the temple to provide friction for the pivoting of the temple and to prevent rotation of the pivot pin. The support, Fig. 12, comprises upper and lower portions 23, 24 which may be connected to the ends of a split lens rim and are held together by a screw 17. The portions 23, 24 are channeled at 31, 32 to form a slot housing a resilient member 20 embracing the ends of the temple 14 and having cylindrical or cupped portions having apertures through which the temple pivot 15 passes. Tension on the member 20 and so the friction on the templeis adjusted by the screw 15. The apertures in the member 20 may have teeth 36, Fig. 10, so that on closing the support by screw 17 the teeth are driven into the screw 15 to lock it against rotation. In an alternative, Fig. 13, the head 42 of the pivot 41 is clamped in a recess in the upper portion 23 and the lower end of the pivot is splayed by means of a bore 46 to grip the sides of the thread in the portion 24.
