Abstract
626,489. Spectacle frames. BAY STATE OPTICAL CO. Sept. 6, 1946, Nos. 26813, 26814, 26815 and 26816. Convention dates, Dec. 15, 1945, Jan. 22, 1946, March 22, 1946 and April 18, 1946. [Class 97 (i)] A spectacle frame having each rim formed from non-metallic material with an outwardly extending end piece which is split substantially horizontally whereby the rims may be spread to permit the insertion of lenses therein, has mounted on each end piece a resilient U- shaped metal fitting with the two opposite limbs of the fitting positioned above and below the two sections of the end piece and means are provided for drawing said limbs together to clamp the two sections of the end piece therebetween. Said means may be a screw which extends between the limbs of the fitting and through the two sections of the end piece where said sections are in abutting relationship. As shown in Fig. 1, the two sections 17, 18 of one end piece of the split rim 11 of a non- metallic spectacle frame are held together by a U-shaped metal fitting 14, Fig. 6, having holes in the limbs 14b, 14c thereof through which screws are threaded. The fitting is weakened at the junction points 8, 9 and is also provided with knuckles 26 to which are hinged the knuckles 25 of a U-shaped metal fitting 15 between the limbs 15b, 15c of which a temple piece is screw connected. In other forms, the limbs 14b, 14c of each fitting fit into grooves formed in the upper and lower surfaces of the sections 17, 18 of the associated end piece respectively ; these sections may also be provided with co-operating V-shaped projections and grooves extending longitudinally of the end piece.
