Abstract
669,977. Carding-engines. FAIN, M. S. July 17, 1947 [Jan. 25, 1946], No. 19059/47. Class 120(i) A carding-engine consists of the main roll 41, a plurality of units of worker rolls 43 and stripper rolls 44 are along the lower periphery of the main roll for one carding operation and a plurality of units of worker rolls 63 and stripper rolls 64 along the upper periphery of the main roll for another carding operation. The first feed means consists of a hopper 10, feed vane 11, feed rolls 13, suction pump 14, and flexible tube 16 terminating in a nozzle 20 which is arranged in a feed trough 21. The nozzle is reciprocated transversely along the trough by a nozzle holder attached to an endless roller chain. Arranged near the trough are feed in rolls 36 and licker in rolls 40. After the first carding operation the partially carded stock is removed from the main roll by the doffer roll 46 and from the doffer roll by the comb 50. The partially carded stock passes via the trough 51 to the flexible tube 54 where air from the blower 56 forces it out of the nozzle 55 (arranged similarly to nozzle 20) to the trough are feed-in rolls 36 and licker-in feed-in rolls 61 and licker-in roll 62 and hence to the main roll again. After the second carding operation the finished carded material is taken off by the doffer roll 66 and comb 67. Means are described for mounting the worker, stripper &c. rolls which consists of carrying the shaft of the roll in bearings on arms which can be adjusted on the frame of the machine by means of toothed plates. Means are also provided for removing the rollers without disturbing the setting of the plates.
