Abstract
669,302. Lubricating. WEAVER, W. A. May 21, 1948 [May 24, 1947], No. 13989/47. Class 7(ii) In an internal-combustion engine having upright cylinders with overhead valve gear, a well 36 containing a camshaft 37 operating the valves through tappets 38, rods 39 and rockers 40, receives lubricant thrown from the peripheries of crank-webs on the engine .crankshaft 9, the lubricant being thrown upwardly by the cams into a cham-: ber 43 enclosing the push-rods and other working parts of the valve gear. The chamber 43 communicates with a chamber 44 housing the rockers 40 and valve stems. As applied to a compression-ignition engine, a fuel pump 41, nozzle holders 49 &c. are enclosed in the chamber 43. Lubricant is distributed to the main bearings 10 from a pump 14 through steel, copper and other, metal tubes 26 cast into the crankcase walls 23, The pump 14, which is of the gear .wheel type, is mounted in an. oil chamber 20 and has a delivery port 21 drilled through the crankcase wall. A gauze filter 28 is mounted in a recessed block 29, and a second gauze filter 30 is fixed across the crankcase. Specification 430,333 is referred to.
