Abstract

717,410. Lubricating. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd. May 9, 1952 [Feb. 9, 1951], No. 3150/51. Class 7(2) Oil sent under pressure, as by a pump 5, to the main bearings of an, e.g. twincylinder motor cycle, engine crankshaft 3 is passed, as via a relief valve 6, through a crankcase wall passage or passages 7, 8, 11, 12 to a trough 16 from which a camshaft 13 picks up oil and forming part of the crankcase and opening thereinto. Oil thus returns to supply by spillage to the crankcase. The passage 11 is angled horizontally as well as vertically and opposite where it leaves the passage 8 a small bore (not shown) from the latter by-passes to timing gears 9 oil which is also returned to supply.
