A rack for plating parts of small articles, e.g. the heads of bolts, comprises a hollow insulating casing havingholes to receive the articles; an electrical conducting element carrying spring wire fasteners is mounted within the casing and is slidable from one position permitting insertion of the articles to another in which the enclosed parts of the articles are held firm by the fasteners whereby electric contact is also made. As shown in Fig. 1, the rack comprises side members 12 to which are screwed or bolted a back cover 11 and a front cover 13 both provided with aligned holes 37, see also Fig. 3, in a pair of which each bolt 38 is to be mounted. A cathode strap 24 is mounted to slide within the casing being guided by a groove 18 in a reinforcing plate 17 secured to the back cover and at the bottom by a slotted bracket (not shown), also secured to the back cover, the motion of the strap being limited by a pin 33 and shoulders 29 on a hooked extension 27. On raising the strap to its upper position the ends 32 of V-wire clips 31 mounted on the strap 24 engage the articles to hold them rigidly and make good contact. The strap is locked in the upper position by a wedge 34 engaging beneath the shoulders 29; the member 34 is pivoted to a bracket 35 and is manipulated by a handle 36.
