Switches, quick-action; contacts; handles; covers and lids.-A wiring device to facilitate connection of such apparatus as washing-machines comprises a mounting block carrying two pairs of contacts for plug connectors and a switch for connecting one contact of one pair to a contact of the other pair, the remaining contacts being directly connected thereto. The mounting block comprises a plug receptacle portion 11 and a switch portion 12 and is secured to a support such as a mounting plate 51 by screws 50 which also fix the switch cover 45, which is lined with insulating material. The plug contacts 20 are housed in recesses 13 adapted to take plug elements 14, 14a and lie in slots in the underside of the block; two of these are connected by a bar 25 and are secured by screws 27 which also connect to them the switch contacts 28. In a recess 30 on the face of the block is mounted a channelshaped frame 32 upon which a U-shaped switch member 36 is pivoted by lugs pressed out from the frame which also provides similarly formed stops 33, 34, for the switch arm. The switch actuator 37 slides in the frame and has projections on opposite sides which engage the stops to limit its movement. It is guided by pressed-in blades 52 on the frame 32. An arm 39 engages holes in the actuator and its other end passes through a hole in the switch member 36; a snap action spring is arranged on the arm 39. The actuator 37 is connected to and insulated from a post 43 having sliding fit in a cone-shaped cover 47, and to prevent the entry of water a button 48, with its edge curved downwardly over the cone is secured to the end of the post by a screw 49, and may be prevented from rotating by projections fitting into grooves in the end of the post.
