A piston member 12, with a diametral bore 16, is moved back and forth within a nozzle 10 by a spindle 21 carrying pinions 20 engaging a toothed rack 17 integral with the piston, thus varying or cutting off liquid flow from an outlet 13. The spindle is rotated by a knurled knob 23 containing a leather washer 24 which is forced against the knob by a spring 25.
