Abstract
664,507. Soldering. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., and WESTON, R. F. Sept. 30, 1949 [Dec. 1, 1948], No. 31143/48. Class 83 (iv). A method of soldering molybdenum, tungsten or tantalum by resistance or arc heating comprises using zirconium as the solder metal in the form of powdered zirconium or zirconium hydride mixed with a liquid adherent such as methylated spirits, which evaporates to give a reducing atmosphere. Where the joint will be subject only to comparatively low temperatures, nickel iron or similar metal powder may be mixed with the zirconium or zirconium hydride. The method may be applied to the soldering of grid wires of thermionic valves or cathode assemblies of mercury discharge lamps to their supports.
